If you’re a fan of Smallville, you’ll be happy to know that Smallville: The Complete Second Season is now available on Warner Home Video. If you haven’t seen the first season, no problem, each episode unravels the mystery of Clark Kent – the mysterious lad who showed up on a Kansas farm cornfield in a space pod – so slowly it’s very easy to catch up and become hooked.

Clark was taken in by Jonathan (John Schneider) and Martha (Annette O’Toole) Kent, who are the perfect kind and hard-working parents – even protecting the boy’s super powers when they are revealed.

The good-looking and likeable Clark, played flawlessly by Tom Welling, integrates into small town life and his high school, taking up with a group of friends: Lana (Kristen), Pete (Sam Jones III) and Chloe (Allison). Clark is infatuated with Lana, but the push-pull of a real romance continues for many episodes due to his unique situation.

Each episode features a somewhat bizarre event for such a small out-of-the-way town, but each one is thrilling for Superman fans as more and more of Superman’s powers and problems are revealed. AND of course, early episodes about Superman’s foe, Lex Luther (Michael Rosenbaum) and his dad, Lionel (John Glover), reveal that Lex and Clark were actually friends at one time.

Characters are well drawn, and the episodes that are somewhat far-fetched manage to come across as fun – all part of the suspense and belief one needs in order to embrace one of the greatest comic book legends of all time.

This deluxe DVD collection contains special features such as: a Christopher Reeve: Man of Steel featurette; Faster Than a Speeding Bullet – The Visual FX of Smallville, The Chloe Chronicle -- webisode investigation/documentaries of the bizarre Smallville events that make Chloe’s “Wall of Weird;" audio commentaries on two episodes by the show’s producers Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Greg Beeman, director James Marshall and stars Tom Welling, Kristin Kruek and Michael Rosenbaum. Additional special features include deleted scenes from season two, a gag reel, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles, and a DVD-ROM link to the smallville.net website.
