Chris Rock co-stars with writer/director Julie Delpy in 2 Days in New York, a talky comedy about a couple trying to hold things together during a short visit by relatives from Paris. Rock plays Mingus, a radio host, and Delpy is Marion, whose elderly father, sexy sister and unexpected friend drive her frantic during their time in New York. I think Chris Rock is very funny, and Julie Delpy’s many talents are admirable indeed -- but sorry to say, this is not one of my favorite films. The poem below explains why.

Coping with guests

is hard to do

when they are kin,

a motley crew.

From Paris to

New York they come.

Dad, sis and friend

for lots of fun.  

They shake things up

and make a mess

for Marion

and poor Mingus.

It’s culture shock

for 2 wild days.

But laughs are scarce

and guess who pays?

Viewers, of course,

and that’s not fair.

So you’ve been warned.

Go if you dare.
