Paul Blackthorne, the handsome British star of ABC’s new show The River, visits Movie Addict Headquarters on Thursday, February 9, to discuss his career as an actor and director. Among Blackthorne’s film experience are his key role in the Academy Award nominated movie Lagaan and his work as director, writer and producer of This American Journey, a new documentary. His other TV credits include playing the lead role in The Dresden Files, and appearing in such hit series as 24, The Gates, ER, Lipstick, Leverage and White Collar. Blackthorne also has an extensive theatre background on both London and New York stages.  

The River, a highly anticipated TV drama, premieres on February 7 at 9 p.m. (PT/ET.) and follows the story of famed wildlife explorer and TV personality Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood), who went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. An enigma to his son Lincoln (Joe Anderson), Dr. Cole’s emergency beacon suddenly goes off six months after he vanished, urging his wife Tess (Leslie Hope) and Lincoln to search for him. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style to discover the shocking truth about his disappearance.

Blackthorne also has a philanthropic side, holding photographic exhibitions in London to raise money for Greenpeace. One of his most recent exhibitions, "Bollywood Backpack" showcased Blackthorne’s photos he shot during the aftermath of Gujarat Earthquake in Lagaan; donating the money raised to the British Red Cross to aid in the earthquake relief efforts.
