Three blockbuster sequels plus another flick about Robin Hood and an epic Disney adventure make their way to the big screen this May. Other offerings include comedy, horror, drama and a romance or two. Check out the schedule below, but remember all release dates are subject to change.  

MAY 7:

Iron Man 2. Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark battles a relentless villain played by Mickey Rourke in this expensive follow-up to the very popular first Iron Man film.    

Babies. A documentary about four babies from around the world.

Mother and Child (limited). Adoption and its impact on three women are explored in this drama starring Annette Bening, Naomi Watts and Kerry Washington. Samuel L. Jackson and Jimmy Smits also appear in key roles.

MAY 14:

Robin Hood. Do we need another Robin Hood movie? If it co-stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, the answer is a resounding “Yes!”

Letters to Juliet. In Verona, there’s a courtyard where many people leave letters. After an American girl finds an unanswered “letter to Juliet” there, she goes on a search for the lovers involved. The cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave and Gael Garcia Bernal. 

Just Wright. Queen Latifah, Common, and Paula Patton make an interesting  love triangle in this romantic comedy about a physical therapist, an NBA All-Star and the therapist’s best friend. 

MAY 21:

Shrek Forever After.  Poor Shrek! In his fourth animated adventure, he’s trapped in a bizarre version of Far Far Away – a place where ogres are hunted and Fiona doesn’t even know him. What will he do to get back to his own world? I can hardly wait to find out!  

MacGruber. This action comedy stars Will Forte as his clueless Saturday Night Live “MacGruber” persona. Ryan Phillippe, Kristen Wiig and Val Kilmer (as the villain) add to the fun.      

MAY 27:

Sex and the City 2. I’m fairly certain we’ll see more gorgeous clothes, sexy lovers, funny friends and misunderstandings in this big screen sequel starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. Added attractions: Chris Noth, John Corbett, Liza Minnelli, Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus. Hmm.    

MAY 28:

Agora. This historical romance, set in Roman Egypt, stars lovely Rachel Weisz as a famous female philosophy instructor. The cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Max Minghella and Rupert Evans.  

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Films pull out all the stops for this special-effects extravaganza based on a video game. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a prince who pairs up with a rival princess (Gemma Arterton) to stop an evil ruler from destroying the world by unleashing a powerful sandstorm.  

Survival of the Dead. What’s worse than a deadly sandstorm? A zombie epidemic, of course. This George A. Romero horror flick may explain why.
