Funny Movies Coming in June
by Betty Jo Tucker

Comedy promises to reign supreme at our multiplexes this June when funnymen Adam Sandler, Steve Carell, Jack Black and Mike Myers try to make us laugh at them once again. But fans of horror films, thrillers, and action movies also have reason to be hopeful. Here’s the release line-up for June 2008:

JUNE 6

You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Adam Sandler as a Mossad agent who becomes a hair stylist in the Big Apple? This could be hilarious, but the previews look a bit too silly.

Kung Fu Panda. A lazy panda (voiced by Jack Black), who loves martial arts, is chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy in this animated action comedy. Jackie Chan, where are you when we need you?

JUNE 13

The Incredible Hulk. Will Bruce Banner, played by Edward Norton, find a cure for his Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde condition? I hope not, for he’s most watchable when he gets very, very angry.

The Happening. M. Night Shyamalan wants to scare the socks off us again with this sci-fi offering about a family on the run from a horrible natural crisis. Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel co-star.

JUNE 20

Get Smart. In this film version of the popular TV series, Steve Carell takes on the role of Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway portrays Agent 99. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Alan Arkin, Terence Stamp and Bill Murray also appear in key roles. It should be fun watching CONTROL agents try to outsmart KAOS again.

The Love Guru. Controversial this comedy may be, but Mike Myers looks quite amusing in his “love guru” persona. Is he stepping over the line by poking fun at the Hindu religion? We’ll just have to see the movie to find out.

JUNE 27

WALL-E. A lonely robot finally discovers what he was meant for in this animated film from Walt Disney Studios.

Wanted. Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy co-star star in this graphic-novel-based thriller about the transformation of a young slacker into a deadly assassin. The impressive cast also includes Morgan Freeman and Terence Stamp.

Remember -- release dates are subject to change.
