David Spaltro: Indie Filmmaker
by Betty Jo Tucker

Award-winning independent filmmaker David Spaltro visits Movie Addict Headquarters on January 15th to discuss Things I Don’t Understand, his acclaimed movie gem currently wowing audiences at film festivals everywhere. He will also talk about …Around, his first feature offering. Both come across as emotionally powerful motion pictures. One follows a young man’s struggle to complete film school despite financial and emotional problems, the other deals with an intelligent but troubled young woman as she tries to discover what happens to us after we die. Spaltro wrote, directed and produced both movies. He’s now working on Wake-Up in New York and adapting the biography “Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons.”

Spaltro’s Things I Don’t Understand picked up Best Feature awards at the following 2012 film festivals: Indie Spirit Film Festival,  Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, Hard Acre Film Festival, Burbank International Film Festival, Sycamore Film Festival, New Jersey Film Festival, Coney Island Film Festival, Laughlin International Film Festival, Dreamland International Film Festival. It also won the Audience Award at the White Sands Int'l Film Festival and Blue Whiskey Independent Film Festival. Actress Molly Ryman's performance in the film as "Violet Kubelick" was named one of the Top Female Performances of 2012 by the San Diego Reader, and San Francisco Film Critic's Circle president, Tim Sika, called it "absolutely wonderful."

Boasting an intriguing background, Spaltro holds a BFA in Directing, taught English for six months in Korea, worked as an editor on a behind-the-scenes feature for Where the Wild Things Are, served as a production assistant on Gracie, and is an avid boxer with training in Akido, Brazilian Jui Jitsu, Tae Kwan Do and Wushu. He also co-executive produced the web series “Caught in the Act.”

“David Spaltro: Indie Filmmaker” airs on BlogTalkRadio at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
