Film critic Mack Bates and filmmaker Kyle Olson join Movie Addict HQ on January 8th to discuss their exciting projects including the Milwaukee Summer Entertainment Camp and sitcom pilots for The Robert and Rosie Show and Roommates. Kyle, whose credits include Glee, The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars, is working on a feature-length documentary about the 2012 summer camp, and Mack -- Kyle’s sitcom co-writer -- contributes freelance articles to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and serves as a staff blogger for Milwaukee Magazine’s official film blog.    

The Milwaukee Summer Entertainment Camp is geared towards high school students who have an interest in the entertainment industry. This annual two-and-a-half-week camp focuses on film, television and theater. Numerous alumni have gone onto graduate high school and are either in college or pursuing work in the entertainment industry or both. While growing up in Southeastern Wisconsin, it was a dream of Kyle's to bring a bit of Hollywood to Wisconsin in order to show young people that a career in the entertainment industry isn't a pipe dream but a real possibility, as there are any number of careers to choose from, both in front of and behind the scenes. Kyle knows a thing or two about the entertainment industry as he works in television production and also directed for the stage in addition to writing and directing the pilot for a potential web series.

Mack says, “After I interviewed Kyle about the camp for the film blog I write for, he and I became fast friends. He asked me to co-write both sitcom pilots with him after he read the first draft of a script I wrote for an adult screenwriting workshop I took earlier in the year around the same time the interview ran on the blog.”

A previous fascinating guest on Movie Addict Headquarters, Mack is currently working a short film script he wrote earlier in the year and hopes to film it sometime in 2013. He also has plots in place for five other narrative-driven shorts, a thesis for a short documentary, and a 13-part web series he’s “had playing out in my head for about 4 years.”
