Filmmaker Jesse Baget
by Betty Jo Tucker

Independent filmmaker Jesse Baget visits Movie Addict Headquarters on May 29 to discuss Cellmates, his clever dark comedy about a Klansman and Mexican farm laborer who share the same jail cell. This offbeat film opens June 1st and stars Tom Sizemore, Hector Jimenez, Stacy Keach, Kevin Farley and Olga Segura.

“Growing up in Arizona where immigration is a hot button issue, I was compelled to tell a story that explored racial divides,” Baget says. “But when you pitch a comedy about a KKK member around Hollywood, you tend to hear a lot of NOs, so putting this film together was a long process, only made possible by close friends and an amazing cast rallying behind the screenplay,” he explains.

Fortunately, Baget’s Cellmates has met with success on the film festival circuit. The movie has played at over 30 of these events, and won various awards -- such as Best Comedy at the Albuquerque Film Festival and Best Picture at the Maryland International Film Festival.

Baget both wrote and directed Cellmates -- as he did with Breathless, a thriller starring Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta and Gina Gershon as well as with the horror flick El Mascarado Massacre. His next film, Wild Side, starring Nicolas Cage and Johnny Knoxville, is in pre-production and should be released in 2013.

Jesse Baget’s interview airs on BlogTalkRadio at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on Tuesday, May 29. During the live broadcast, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
