'Casablanca' 70th Anniversary
by Betty Jo Tucker

Movie Addict Headquarters celebrates the 70th Anniversary of Casablanca during a special episode on March 20. Joining in the festivities are: Tom Barnes, author of Casablanca Film Trivia: Here’s Looking at You, Kid; film historian James Colt Harrison; award-winning blogger Fausta Rodríguez Wertz and other Casablanca fans.

Barnes includes 1,130 questions about Casablanca in his fun trivia book and he’s worked on these questions for the past 15 years. The questions cover such areas as history, actors, script, critics, images, characters, production staff, music, geography, goofs, and clothing. Each of the 33 chapters centers on a specific category or theme, and most of the chapters end with interesting “factoids” about this fascinating movie. Barnes declares, “What better way to honor Casablanca than a book of trivia about all aspects of the film and its filming?”

Harrison, who has contributed movie reviews to the La Jolla Village News plus other outlets, has also done research for a history of the early Hollywood studios, and Wertz is a savvy movie buff who loves Casablanca. Both Harrison and Wertz are frequent and popular guests on Movie Addict Headquarters.

On Wednesday, March 21, movie audiences in select theaters nationwide will also be able to participate in the Casablanca 70th Anniversary by watching this classic Hollywood love story on the big screen, thanks to a stunning digital presentation by NCM Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Warner Home Video. The event boasts a TCM produced introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne who will discuss Casablanca’s enduring legacy and reveal some of its fascinating behind-the-scenes stories. Casablanca starred Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid and became one of the most romantic films in the history of cinema. It won three Academy Awards in 1944 including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Tickets are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com.

The Movie Addict Headquarters “Casablanca 70th Anniversary” episode airs on BlogTalkRadio at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on Tuesday, March 20. During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
