Citizen Kane 70th Anniversary
by Betty Jo Tucker

To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Citizen Kane, Movie Addict Headquarters revisits a fascinating interview with filmmaker David Worth, author of The Citizen Kane Crash Course in Cinematography: A Wildly Fictional Account of How Orson Welles Learned Everything About the Art of Cinematography in Half an Hour or Was It a Weekend? This timely episode airs September 20th – a week after the special release of a 70th Anniversary Citizen Kane DVD.

Considered by many critics to be the greatest film ever made, Citizen Kane was released in 1941. Orson Welles directed, co-wrote and starred in this classic movie that received nine Academy Award nominations and took home the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. Worth’s fictional account of interactions between Welles and legendary cinematographer Gregg Toland describes how Toland taught the “boy wonder” everything he needed to know about filmmaking, thereby assuring the high quality of Citizen Kane.

Worth has worked on more than thirty feature films as both a director and a director of photography. He was the DP on two features for Clint Eastwood, Bronco Billy and Any Which Way You Can. As the DP on Bloodsport and the director of Kickboxer, David helped launch the career of Jean-Claude Van Damme. He served as director and cinematographer for the thrillers Time Lapse starring Roy Scheider and The Prophet’s Game with Dennis Hopper. He has also taught at UCLA and directed television episodes.

This “Citizen Kane 70th Anniversary Show” can be heard at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on BlogTalkRadio. During the live show listeners are invited to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
