Tinseltown Book Signing
by Betty Jo Tucker

Where's the best place to hold a book signing for a memoir about movies? In the lobby of a multiplex theater, of course. That's why I'll be at Cinemark's Tinseltown in Pueblo, Colorado, on the afternoon of August 31 to sell and autograph copies of Confessions of a Movie Addict.

Moviegoers who purchase my "life story with everything but the movie stuff edited out" at this event will also be eligible to win a $15 Cinemark Gift Certificate plus 2 free theater passes in a special raffle.

Yes, I know this is a shameless plug. But I couldn't resist. I'm so excited about the Tinseltown book signing as well as about what movie fans and critics have been saying about my book.  Here are a few examples:

"If Oscars were given out for the funniest book of the year, Confessions of a Movie Addict would win, hands down."
--- James Colt Harrison, editor, National PreVue Film Magazine.

"Eccentrically cool." --- Ian Waldron-Mantgani, the UK Critic.

"Chatty, funny, and over-flowing with all things cinematic."
--- Scott Smith, lifestyle reporter, The Pueblo Chieftain.

"More than required reading for anyone with even a passing interest in the silver screen." --- Phil Hall, book editor, New York Resident.

"A great book!" --- Herb Kane, Criticdoctor.com

"A loving and lighthearted look at the world of film." --- Telluride Daily Planet.

Writing Confessions of a Movie Addict was such fun for me, mostly because I decided to reveal everything about my obsession with the cinema -- a love affair that's lasted over half a century. I enjoyed describing movie-related incidents from my early years as well as personal interactions with stars and other film personnel while working as a film critic.  Many of my meetings with actors and filmmakers produced hilarious results, but the joke was usually on me. Although hesitating to disclose my most embarrassing interview, I finally included it -- along with several other interviews and over 70 selected movie reviews.

Also, in order to help movie fans discover if they're in danger of becoming a movie addict like me, I added a "Checklist for Movie Addiction" which contains such questions as:

1. Do you get defensive when someone accuses you of seeing too many movies?

2. Have you ever taken money from a child's piggy bank to pay for admission to the movies?

3. Do you sometimes tell co-workers you have an important meeting to attend, but go to a matinee instead?

4. Do you avoid anyone who doesn't like movies?

5. Is your conversation filled with comments like "Show me the money," "May the force be with you," and "You can't handle the truth."

(Hey, it never hurts to perform a little public service.)

A big thanks to Dan Traeger, manager of Pueblo's Cinemark Tinseltown, for arranging the August 31st book signing, which is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. I hope lots of movie fans drop by and say "Hi!"
