Winter's Bone was voted Best Film of 2010 by the San Diego Film Critics Society on Tuesday, December 14. The film tells the story of a teen girl desperately trying to salvage her family as she searches for her father in the drug-ravaged Ozarks. Jennifer Lawrence, playing the teenager, won the society's Best Actress award, while John Hawkes won Best Supporting Actor for his role as the girl's troubled uncle.

Colin Farrell, portraying an Irish fisherman whose life is changed forever after he catches a mermaid, won the society's award for Best Actor in Ondine. Leslie Manville was voted Best Supporting Actress for her work in Another Year.

The society’s critics, comprising print, television, radio and Web critics working in San Diego County, voted Darren Aronofsky as Best Director for the psychological drama Black Swan.

Jesse Armstrong, Sam Bain and Chris Morris were honored for their Four Lions original screenplay, and Aaron Sorkin won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network. I Am Love was named Best Foreign Language Film, while Exit Through the Gift Shop was voted Best Documentary. Toy Story 3 was chosen as Best Animated Film.

The critics cited Wally Pfister as Best Cinematographer for his work on Inception and Jonathan Amos and Paul Machliss for Best Editing on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Dante Ferretti was cited for Best Production Design for his work on Shutter Island. The score for Never Let Me Go was voted Best Score, honoring the work of composer Rachel Portman. Best Ensemble Performance went to 44 Inch Chest, and Rebecca Hall earned the critics' Body of Work recognition for her roles in The Town, Please Give and Red Riding 1974.  

Duncan Shepherd received the annual Kyle Counts Award, named after the late San Diego film critic and honoring those who have made contributions to film in the city. Shepherd recently retired after serving as film critic for the San Diego Reader for nearly 40 years.
