Top 100 First Films Honored by OFCS
by Betty Jo Tucker

What do Orson Welles, David Lynch, John Huston, Charles Laughton, Quentin Tarantino and Sidney Lumet have in common? They are all extraordinary filmmakers, of course. But now their first feature films have been named by OFCS (Online Film Critics Society) to a list of the Top 100 First Films of All Time. In fact, movies from these directors made it into the top ten as shown below.

Number One: Citizen Kane (Orson Welles)

Number Two: Eraserhead (David Lynch)

Number Three: Night of the Living Dead (George A. Romero)

Number Four: The Maltese Falcon (John Huston)

Number Five:  Breathless (Jean-Luc Godard)

Number Six:  Reservoir Dogs (Quentin Tarantino)

Number Seven: Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton)

Number Eight: Blood Simple (Joel and Ethan Coen)

Number Nine: The 400 Blows (Francois Truffaut)

Number Ten: 12 Angry Men (Sydney Lumet)

This new Top 100 list has been published on the OFCS web site, so click here to find out which other directors are among the “first film” honorees.
