The Amazing Ashley Bell
by Betty Jo Tucker

Rising star Ashley Bell, who delivers a breakout performance in The Last Exorcism, visits Movie Addict Headquarters on September 7th to discuss her key role in Eli Roth’s docu-style horror film. Ashley plays a vulnerable young girl believed to be possessed by the devil, and her contorted image is the one featured on the movie’s disturbing poster.

Critics are lauding Ashley’s work in this unusual film, as indicated by the quotes below.

Bell is brilliant, oozing backwoods authenticity and convincingly portraying a young girl whose demons would make even Linda Blair's Regan jump out of her skin.” -- BACK STAGE

“Ms. Bell’s scenes were achieved entirely without special effects; and by the time this creepumentary trips over its own pounding feet, the debt it owes to its ultra-flexible star will be more than evident.” – NEW YORK TIMES

“The best thing in The Last Exorcism is Ashley Bell's performance: She knows how to make rage the flip side of innocence. Especially when the camera follows her into the barn, and we see how those animals really died.” – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Ashley also appears as “Tonya” on Showtime’s Emmy-winning series The United Stares of Tara as well as in the comedy Stay Cool with Winona Ryder and Hilary Duff. Her work in live theater includes a number of plays in Los Angeles and New York City. The Los Angeles Times described her as a “scene stealer.” While studying at Cambridge University in England, Ashley won Best Actress for her role as Ophelia in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Equally adept at comedy as well as drama, this versatile graduate of  New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts currently studies and performs with The Groundlings, Hollywood's historic comedy group.

Ashley Bell’s interview airs on BlogTalkRadio at 1 p.m. Pacific Time (4 p.m. Eastern Time) on Tuesday, September 7. An archived segment will also be available. During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat.
