Mini Review: July 24
by John P. McCarthy

Below is a Mini Review from Cineman Syndicate for one movie opening on Friday, July 24, 2009.

THE UGLY TRUTH

Katherine Heigl was better off with Seth Rogen, hairy back and all. That's one of many dirty little secrets revealed in this asinine romantic comedy. Never mind that she and costar Gerard Butler are easy on the eyes. The movie doesn't have an original bone in its body. Like in Knocked Up, Heigl plays an officious ninny in the TV business, while Butler limns a Neanderthal dispensing relationship advice on cable access. "The truth is never pretty," he preaches. Evidently, it's never funny either. Any good will Heigl earned for shtupping Rogen or wearing all those bridesmaid's frocks in 27 Dresses has been squandered. (R) BORING ROMANTIC COMEDY

Director - Robert Luketic

Lead - Katherine Heigl

Running Time - 95 minutes.

Capsule review by John P. McCarthy.
