Filmmaker Misha Zubarev has lots to talk about on the next “Movie Addict Headquarters” show. His film 18 and Out, chosen to be included in NBC’s The Screening Room, dramatically illustrates an important problem relating to child welfare. Ruella Anderson, a distinguished child welfare expert, will also join the discussion to share her expertise in this area.

“For me, the most rewarding part of filmmaking is telling stories that have meaning and can play a part in influencing the way people see, feel and think about the past, present and future,” Zubarev reports on his website.

Zubarev’s passion for the visual arts is evident in the many jobs he’s taken on for film and television projects. Not content to focus one area, his background includes work as a camera operator, videographer, lighting assistant, producer, production assistant, cinematographer, editor, script supervisor, actor and director. Zubarev has been involved  in various capacities on such movies and TV shows as: Four Funny Families; The Wisdom Tree; Loneliness; Annapolis; Shooter; Synedoche, New York; and About Angels, etc.

Bringing a wealth of knowledge about child welfare to the discussion, Anderson has worked for many years as a Child Welfare Caseworker and Administrator. She has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Child and Mental Health Coalition for her exemplary service, and the Department of Social Services for the National Association of Social Workers (Colorado chapter) named her a “Social Worker of Honor." Currently, Anderson is employed by New Start Child Placement Agency to conduct SAFE Home Studies for prospective Foster Parents.
