Saluting Independent Films
by Betty Jo Tucker

Film critic and author Phil Hall will drop by Movie Addict Headquarters on Tuesday, June 9, to talk about his new book, The History of Independent Cinema. Filmmaker Thomas Seymour also plans to visit the show for a discussion of his indie crime comedy, London Betty, in which Phil plays one of the key roles.

Phil is considered by many fans and creators of independent cinema to be an indie guru. He has written two previous impressive books about the subject: The Encyclopedia of Underground Movies and Independent Film Distribution: How To Make a Successful End Run Around the Big Guys. His film journalism has appeared in the New York Times, New York City News, Wired Magazine, Hot/Wired.com, American Movie Classics Magazine, Video Librarian, Tower Records Pulse! Magazine, and the Organica Quarterly. Phil, a contributing editor for Film Threat, has also served as the book editor for the New York Resident weekly newspaper and as a member of Governing Committee of the Online Film Critics’ Society (OFCS).

Despite his busy schedule, Phil has found time to act in a couple of indie films -- and one of them is London Betty. Tom Seymour (The Land of College Prophets, Everything Moves Alone) not only directed this amusing film about a group of petty thieves who band together to take down a corrupt mayor, he also wrote, edited and co-stars in it. Phil appears in some hilarious scenes as Sgt. Stone, a transvestite ex-Marine hitman (!).

This BlogTalkRadio show promises to be a fun and enlightening listening experience, especially for indie fans. During the live podcast, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
