Summer Extravaganza
by Betty Jo Tucker

Mad Movie Man A.J. Hakari will join producer Nikki Starr and me on the next “Movie Addict Headquarters” radio show. His mission? To rant and rave about movies and DVD offerings available this summer. Which ones will he pick as the best bets of the season? Although summer promises big blockbusters, the Mad Movie Man is tough to please. Still, whether being negative or positive, he’s always great fun!

Hakari serves as horror expert for ReelTalk Movie Reviews and recently signed on as DVD correspondent for Movie Addict Headquarters. He also writes film reviews on such sites as Terror Tube and Classic Movie Guide. In addition, Hakari operates Passport Cinema, a site devoted strictly to foreign language films.

Although summer officially begins in late June, “Summer 2009 at the Movies” started off with a bang this month when X-Men Origins: Wolverine clawed its way into the multiplex, then went into warp speed with Star Trek, followed by high expectations for Angels & Demons, the Ron Howard religious thriller. Among upcoming films scheduled for release through August are: Terminator Salvation, Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian, Drag Me to Hell, Up, Land of the Lost, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, The Proposal, Year One, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, Public Enemies, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, The Ugly Truth, Orphan, Julie & Julia, Final Destination: Death Trip 3D, Inglourious Basterds, and H2 (Halloween 2).

Hakari’s DVD report will include reactions to such May releases as Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, My Bloody Valentine 3D and The Grudge 3. June DVDs scheduled for release will also be discussed. Films like Revolutionary Road, The International, Fired Up, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Inkheart, Taken and Pink Panther 2 are on the June DVD list.

BlogTalkRadio’s “Summer Film & DVD Extravaganza” airs Tuesday, May 19, at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time). During the live broadcast, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available. The call-in number is 646-478-5668.
