Still Doin' Their Thing
by Betty Jo Tucker

10 MPH, a hit indie documentary that's been winning awards on the film festival circuit, has finally been released nationally on DVD. The movie concerns two aspiring young filmmakers, Hunter Weeks and Josh Caldwell, who quit their office jobs and set out to film their first feature-length documentary about a 100-day Segway journey across the USA.

The  DVD, from Spinning Blue, is a region-less dual layer disc featuring the 92-minute movie, commentary track track from the filmmakers, 12 deleted scenes, a
blooper reel, a NECN interview conducted at the end of the journey, expedition facts, and a reel about j.fred, one of the subjects in the film.

I’m happy to report that Hunter and Josh still continue  to live out their filmmaking dream. According to media relations contact Kelly Wilkinson, these two are “breaking conventions and reminding the film industry that the indie artist is alive and thriving.”

For example, here are important updates Hunter and Josh announced this week:

1. The filmmakers of 10 MPH are offering anyone anywhere in the world the opportunity to sell 10 MPH and get a 33% cut of the selling price.

2. Segway LLC is joining as a sponsor of 10 MPH to help with distribution of the film and the launch of a communal blog centered around the film’s message -- “do your thing.” People who have seen the film are encouraged to offer feedback on this blog and to reflect on the movie’s message of slowing down in life and making sure you are doing the thing you’re supposed to do. From May 29th until September 3rd, anyone can enter to win weekly prizes and the grand prize of a Segway. Other prizes include a Fender Stratocaster Guitar, a year’s supply of Chipotle, and a SmartWool package. Visit www.10mph.com/segway  for more details.

3. In addition to DVD, 10 MPH will be available as an iTunes compatible download and on Amazon Unbox for PC and TIVO users.

Hunter, who directed this unusual documentary, expresses the sentiments of Josh and their filmmaking colleagues when he says, “There’s nothing like being an indie artist and presenting something that truly moves people. People relate to this film because it’s a real story and speaks from our hearts.”

Currently, Hunter Weeks and Josh Caldwell are in  post-production on 10 Yards, their second documentary feature film.
